Ten years ago today, the documentary Life Itself had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, the first of many events where it played to great acclaim. Based on Roger Ebert’s memoir of the same name, it was originally meant to be a portrait of a man who overcame adversity (cancer surgeries left Ebert unable to speak from 2006 onwards), and transformed into a tribute to his entire career when the great critic passed away in April 2013, while the film was still in production.
