Yesterday, the 77th Cannes Film Festival came to an end. It was my seventh edition as a journalist, made more special by the fact I was also a jury member this year. Specifically, I was one of nine members of the 2024 FIPRESCI jury, coordinated by Isabelle Danel, Honorary President of FIPRESCI.
For those who don’t know, FIPRESCI stands for Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique, the international federation of film critics. The federation, consisting of various national sections (I’m a member of the Swiss branch), has annual juries at most of the major festivals worldwide, and has been present in Cannes since the early days of the event. I first joined in 2021, when I was chosen to represent Switzerland in the jury at Visions du Réel, and since then I’ve also taken part in juries in Venice, Gothenburg, Toronto and Karlovy Vary.
